Lose Weight in 7 Days!

We’ve all tried it, this diet and that diet, treadmill running and squats. We make resolutions every New Year to lose weight, some way… some how this new diet is gonna work! We often get frustrated by mid March because we have slacked off and haven’t changed our lifestyle OR weight at all.

Could it be that it’s not as simple as making a resolution? We must first tackle the battle of our mind and get to the bottom of why we eat the way we do, why don’t we exercise, and why don’t we value our health as much as we should?

I believe the reason why most of us do not succeed when it comes to changing our lifestyle is the lack of planning. When you make a conscious decision to change your life, everything within you is going to fight against it, you been practicing the same habits for years and they most certainly will not change overnight!

There are some steps that you can take to ensure a better outcome and get on the fast track to losing weight within a week!

First, you need to plan and prepare your meals for the week on Sunday. Incorporate lots of fresh veggies and prepare them by steaming, refrigerate in tupperware and label according to the days of the week. Lean proteins such as  tuna and grilled chicken can be made ahead of time and stored as well. Always load your plate with more veggies, limit meat portions to about 4 oz, the size of a deck of cards. Snack on fruits, almonds, and raw veggies in between meals. Put yourself on a time schedule (eat every 3 hours) and restrict food consumption to the kitchen/dining room only. For weight loss of more than 15 pounds, try replacing a meal with a slimming smoothie and adding supplements to help you achieve your desired results.

Lastly, do not go at it alone! Find an accountability buddy and encourage each other through the process. Changing your lifestyle is a process, it’s not magic or a quick fix. Take each day as a journey towards a lifetime of wellness, health and happiness!

Blind Allegiance? I think so….

Davey D's Hip Hop Corner

Davey-D-purple-frameThere’s a lot of talk about President Obama and his use of drones as well as him having a kill list which has asserts that he can kill American citizens that he deems to be working against America and somehow down with al-Qaeda.. This is indeed very scary and something all of us should seriously reflect on, because whatever steps Obama takes will not be limited to him.. Whoever sits in the Oval office will be able to pick up where Obama leaves off..

Seems like quite a few are giving the President a pass on his policies.. Would we be comfortable with those policies if we had President Romney as opposed to Obama? What if it was former President George Bush saying he has a kill list and has a right to use it on American citizens? Many of us took to the streets and raised a ruckus for…

Got Breakfast? Are You Still….

Sorry, I haven’t posted in a while, I think I had a bit of writer’s block and I haven’t been inspired lately but, I attended religious services yesterday morning and Ta Da! I thought of this……

If we have yet to find true fulfillment in our lives we wake every morning empty. This emptiness creates an appetite that needs to be satisfied, so we go about our day trying to find ways to rid ourselves of this hunger. We cook great meals, we exercise, we excel at work or in school and we aim to be the perfect spouse, parent or child. It’s pretty exhausting and we still end up feeling well….. empty.

We have just cycled through twenty-four hours of mundane activities searching for validation by way of accomplishments. Let’s be honest, we don’t do these things for own satisfaction, we do them for acceptance by our friends, family and society.

How often do we post pictures and quotes via social networks to manufacture appearances of “perfect” lives?

How often do we go to bed at night pondering on what we could have done better during day? How often do we wake up the next morning aiming to fix what went wrong yesterday, on top of MORE accomplishments for today?

If we do this long enough, days turn into weeks

weeks turn into months

months turn into years

years turn into an empty LIFETIME.

True satisfaction comes from within.. It comes from knowing the truth about you..

You have been fearfully and wonderfully made, not to chase the dream but to live the dream that’s inside of you..

Believe In Your Greatness

I always challenge myself to be greater.. Be a better mother, friend, daughter, student.. Be a better christian.

A better christian.

It’s hard enough to be a good person in a society where doing wrong seems to be celebrated, let alone a christian. I can totally relate to Paul’s letters in the bible where he states that he wants to do right but always does the opposite. Life’s hard.

It’s not in anyone’s DNA to become successful at anything overnight, that includes living a Christ like life. Philosophers have debated for years over if we are innately born bad or good and honestly no one knows the answer. I believe if we trust our heart and have faith in the things that God has placed there, we become inspired and filled with courage to do more than we ever imagined.

Believe in yourself…. Trust your heart….Challenge yourself…. Have faith.. Be Great

Repeating History… Why is America Afraid?

America…Early 1800’s

Thousands of African-Americans (I use this term lightly) were shipped overseas to mainly southern parts of America in the 1800’s. Once the practice of slavery ended, many of these people migrated north (Great Migration 1910) in search of better opportunities. Northern whites were more accepting of blacks yet, they began to feel intimidated by the millions of them moving into their territory. They began to block housing and refusing those who wished to take residence in predominately white neighborhoods and schools. Blacks were among some of the hardest working people during this time, they were not set out to make trouble but, merely survive as “free” persons in the United States of America.

I do not understand. While black people were enslaved and indebted to masters, they were beloved cooks, nannies, shoe shiners, horse tamers, slave whippers, entertainers, child breeders and servants. Once these people obtained their so called freedom, leaving their white masters and plantations, they were considered a threat to society.

Fast Forward to Mid 1900’s

If you were not on the receiving end of direct physical abuse as a result of participating in sit-ins, marches, boycotts, and attempts to segregate, you saw the brutal reality of it on TV or by listening to it on the radio. I would have imagined many blacks lived in constant fear for their lives and that of their children’s.

Martin Luther King’s presence dominated the civil rights movement by way of peaceful measures. He encouraged nonviolence, even when he was on the receiving end of it. His oratory skills were impeccable and helped moved a nation. So why was he hunted and gunned down like animal prey? Somebody somewhere did not agree with his principles. Somebody, somewhere, wasn’t amused with integrating schools, churches, restaurants, movie theaters, or retail stores. Somebody, somewhere felt threatened by integration but, why? This question still rings in my head today. What is America and its founders so afraid of?

I speak in present tense because America IS still afraid. There is an undisputed and unspoken line of segregation that still exists among races. If Martin Luther King were alive today, I do not believe he would be pleased, I believe he would still be fighting for the civil liberties of minorities in this nation. Where are the present day Martins, Malcolm’s, Marcus’, and Huey’s? Where are the future leaders fighting for justice?

I do not understand. This is a country that prides itself on liberty and justice for all. This is a country whose principle belief is equality among all men. This is a country whose available resources are the reason so many risk their lives to cross border lines. Why is this country still an unequal place to live?

In the midst of prayer breakfasts, memorial visits, and parades I urge you to think beyond festivities and ask yourself, are the disparities among minorities in 2013 different from those during the civil rights movement? How can you aid in creating change?

I’ll leave you with a quote that still holds relevance today.

“History will have to record that the greatest tragedy of this period of social transition was not the strident clamor of the bad people, but the appalling silence of the good people”.  Martin Luther King Jr

Beyond Imagination & Dreams

Beyond Imagination & Dreams

Much like our lives, no one really knows where an ocean begins or ends… but that doesn’t stop it from existing.

We don’t plan our beginning, nor do we know our ending but, that doesn’t mean we cease to exist either.

To truly exist is to experience ALL that life has for you but, If you never step foot off the shore, how will you know?

Petition aids in pulling the rug from under “All my babies’ mama’s”…

Over 37,000 signatures were received via Color of Change to halt the airing of Oxygen Networks new reality show, “All my babies mama’s”.

Thank Heavens; just the title alone is insulting. In an age where the majority of cultural depiction relies on media, being black AND being labeled a “baby mama” is all too familiar. How many television shows have to be written and produced to get this point across? Why do we seem to glorify this image? If we keep allowing negative portrayals of minorities into our living rooms and newsstands, the way society depicts these classes will never change.

Although I am “a baby mama” myself, I’ve never been proud of that societal title. I would never exploit this fact to my children, let alone others and encourage the same behavior. While there is nothing wrong with single parenthood, it seems to be an expectation in the black community and is sometimes even celebrated. The benefit of children having a healthy, two parent household far outweighs the struggle of raising them alone.

When major TV networks produce shows such as All my babies mama’s they have to factor in their audience and the message being spread. In no way would this show have been positive for a young or even adult audience. Spotlighting a rapper with eleven children by ten different mothers, to none of which he is married, does nothing for the black community except exploit it even further and solidify negative depictions other races have of it.Image

Oxygen network released this statement saying it will “continue to develop compelling content that resonates with our young female viewers and drives the cultural conversation.”
